Grayson County scored 28 unanswered points in the second half, as they shocked Fort Chiswell, 35-28, in Mountain Empire District action Friday night in Max Meadows. Galax, Grayson County and Fort Chiswell are tri-champs of the MED.
The Pioneers (8-2, 3-1 MED) took a 21-7 lead at the half. A 1-yard run by Johnse Hatfield, a 16-yard run by Josh Cain and a 7-yard run by Hatfield accounted for Fort Chiswell's first half scoring. A 37-yard pass from Ethan Hash to Mike Rodgers accounted for the Blue Devils (6-4, 3-1 MED) scoring.
In the third quarter, a 28-yard run by Hatfield gave the Pioneers a 28-7 lead. From that point on, Grayson County would take control, a 3-yard, 2-yard and 60-yard run by Xavier Rodriguez and a 3-yard run by Darren Anderson would make the final, 35-28, Grayson County.
Xavier Rodriguez led Grayson County with 208 yards rushing on 18 carries and three TDs.
Johnse Hatfield ran for 240 yards on 41 carries and three TDs to lead Fort Chiswell.
