Poor shooting and turnovers proved to be the downfall for Patrick County, as they fell, 61-35, to Millbrook in the Group AA, Division 3 girls state semifinals Tuesday at VCU's Siegel Center in Richmond.
Millbrook (21-0) now takes on Greensville County for the Group AA, Division 3 state title at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Millbrook took a quick 6-0 lead before the Cougar's Kylene Culler hit a pair of foul shots at the 4:49 mark to make it 6-2. The Pioneers would continue to control the tempo, as they built a 26-6 heading into the second quarter. Things would slow down in the second quarter, as Millbrook increased its advantage to 36-14 at the half. Patrick County (17-9) would keep it close in the second half. However, the first quarter deficit was too much to overcome, as the Cougars fell 61-35.
For the game, Patrick County shot the ball for 27 percent (13-39) and committed 25 turnovers. Meanwhile, Millbrook had just nine turnovers and shot 33 percent from the field (20-61). One bright spot for the Cougars were, they did outrebound the Pioneers, 46-40.
Kylene Culler led Patrick County with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Courtni Green led Millbrook with a game-high 20 points and Sara Mead added 15 points.
