Jefferson Lee, a kicker for the Craig County Rockets, won the freshman division field goal championship this past weekend in the finals of the National Kicking Combine in Tampa, Fla.
The National Combine Series is for kickers, punters and long snappers. It was founded by Michael Husted, a former kicker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the University of Virginia, along with sponsorship from PUMA.
Lee was seeded second after the preliminaries, in which he hit eight of 10 field goals from 33 yards and beyond. He then defeated Jim Cooper of Mainland High School in Linwood, N.J. to win the title.
Lee, who is the starting kicker for the Rockets, averaged 51-yards on kickoffs, 33.6 yards on punts, going 16-for-18 on PATs and hitting two field goals of 36 and 38-yards, with the 38-yarder being the game-winner during this past season's Homecoming game.
Lee, who is a freshman, was named to the All-Pioneer First Team as a kicker, as well as being an Honorable Mention selection on the All-Region C team.
