Led by the Ouellette brothers, Matt and Josh, Craig County pulled out a 35-33 Pioneer District football win over James River Friday night in New Castle.
The Knights (5-5, 2-2 PD) took a 6-0 lead on a 23-yard pass from Jordan Talbott to Jonathan Falls. The Rockets (5-5, 2-2 PD) would take a 7-6 lead on a 77 yard gallop by Matt Ouelette.
In the second quarter, James River pulled out to a 20-7 lead behind a 7-yard run from Brandon Garrett and a 31-yard pass from Talbott to Falls. Craig County closed out the quarter with a 1-yard run by Josh Ouellette to pull to within six, 20-14.
After a scoreless third quarter, a 6-yard pass from J. Ouellette to Brenton Christian and a 1-yard dive by J. Ouellete would make it 28-20, Rockets. A 16-yard pass from Talbott to Chris Ware pulled the Knight to within tw0, 28-26. An 89-yard gallop by J. Ouellette gave Craig County a 35-26 lead. A 30-yard pass from Talbott to Garrett would make the final 35-33, Craig County. James River drove deep into Craig County territory, but was unable to convert on a fourth down pass that was knocked down in the endzone.
Jordan Talbott led James River by going 20-for-25 for 293 yards and four touchdown passes. Brandon Garrett rushed for 122 yards on 23 carries.
Craig County was led by Matt Ouellette, who rushed for 160 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, while Josh Ouelette ran for 139 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries.
