Craig County took control of this one in the second half, as they turned a 16-point halftime deficit into a 49-45 non-district girls' basketball win over Eastern Montgomery Tuesday night in New Castle.
The Rockets (2-3) took an 11-8 lead after the opening quarter, only to see the Mustangs (2-9) go on a 25-6 run in the second quarter to take a 33-17 halftime lead. Craig County started is comeback in the third quarter, behind a fullcourt press, to cut its deficit to seven, 39-32, after three quarters of action. The Rockets went on a 17-6 spurt in the final quarter to pull out the four-point road win.
Danielle Simpkins led East Mont with 11 points and Casey Smith added 10 points.
Melia Hutton led Craig County with a game-high 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Anna Smith contributed 13 points.
