Brandon Welch scattered three hits, as he helped lead James River to a 14-4 non-district baseball win over Auburn Monday in Buchanan. The game was called after six innings due to the slaughter rule.
Caleb Link led the Eagles (5-5) with a 2-for-3 showing, including an RBI double and a run scored. Gabe Spencer tallied one hit, a double.
Mitchell Lanning led the Knights (4-7) with two hits, including five RBIs, a two-RBI double and two-run single. Colin Guilliams had three hits and two hits, while Caleb Gunter added a hit, a run scored and three RBIs.
Welch gave up four runs, two earned, on three hits, walking three and striking out nine.
