In a battle of county rivals, James River knocked off Lord Botetourt, 46-43, in non-district girl's basketball action Wednesday night in Buchanan. It marked the first time since 1998 that the Knights had defeated the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers, who led by a slim 23-22 margin at the break, saw the Knights (6-1) slowly pulled away in the second half to claim the three-point nail-biter.
Kennedi Van Ravenstein, Emily Wampler and Kendra Wood led Lord Botetourt with 10 points apiece.
Reanna Hamm led James River with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Askley King added a game-high 15 points.
