Parry McCluer pulled away in the second half against a "pesky" Northwood team, 62-40, in the opening round of the Region C, Division 1 boys basketball tournament Wednesday night in Buena Vista.
Parry McCluer (16-7) now faces Galax (14-6), a 54-37 winner over Covington, in the semifinals Friday night at George Wythe High School. Game time is slated for 7:45 p.m.
The Blues led by three at the half, 20-17, and the score remained tight throughout the third period. Parry McCluer finally pulled away in the fourth quarter, as they outscored the Panthers, 28-10, to pull away for the 62-40 win.
Ty Frye led Northwood with 18 points.
Parry McCluer was led once again by sophmore Zack Stinnett with a game high 19 points and Tyler Kerr added 10 points. Junior Michael Watts had a strong defensive game with a career-high 11 blocked shots.
