The Blacksburg JV softball team opened up its season Saturday by sweeping visiting Liberty, 12-3 and 4-3.
In the first game, Hailey Porth led the Bruins (1-0) with a 4-for-4 effort, including three doubles and three RBIs. Kaelie Altizer, Gabbie Meek and Courtney Cumber had two hits apiece, while Lauren Williams, Alanah Flad and Kelsey Bishop added a hit each.
Lilly Potts picked up the win inside the circle. She gave up three runs, on six hits and struck out 10 in seven innings.
In the second game, Porth and Flad led the Bruins (2-0) with two hits each, while Williams, Kayla Keith, Meek and Elizabeth Berg added one hit each.
Williams picked up the win in the circle. She gave up three runs on three hits and fanned six batters in five innings.
