Blacksburg Sweeps Blue Demon Invitational

blacksburg-bruinBlacksburg continues to be the showcase team of cross-country in the region, as both its girls and boys teams swept the 20th Annual Blue Demon Invitational Saturday in Christiansburg. Just last week, the Bruins swept the 'Clash With The Titans' at Hidden Valley.

GIRLS

Hannah Brown was first to cross the finish line, as she and five other teammates finished in the Top 15, to lead Blacksburg to the girls title over second place finisher Jefferson Forest.

Blacksburg was first with 27 points, followed by Jefferson Forest (64), Christiansburg (110), Abingdon (123) and Cave Spring (127) to round out the Top 5 teams. Radford (189) was sixth, followed by Salem (203), Patrick County (208), Lebanon (227), John Battle (248), Altavista (264) and Martinsville (335).

The Top 15 girls finishers were 1) Hannah Brown (Blacksburg, 18:59.16), 2) Katie Fortner (Cave Spring, 19:40.84), 3) Sarah Dorrell (Blacksburg, 20:01.64), Michelle Kauffman (Blacksburg, 20:14.07),  5) Tabby Arwood (Lebanon, 20:15.84), 6) Mary Deis (Jefferson Forest, 20:17.82), 7) Lindsay Siska (Salem, 20:19.32) 8) Tazzy Kaiser (Blacksburg, 20:34.96), 9) Eliza Eaton (Christiansburg, 20:39.39), 10) Leigha Schimmoeller (Jefferson Forest, 21:01.00) 11) Carley Smith (Grayson County, 21:07.89) 12) Morgan Grange (Blacksburg, 21:11.82), 13) Madison Turner (Abingdon, 21:23.66), 14) Anna Carter (Jefferson Forest, 21:24.55) and 15) Kate Buss (Blacksburg, 21:31.65).


BOYS
         
Blacksburg took spots 1-2-3 and landed two more in the top 10, as they won the boys crown by easily out-distancing second place finisher Abingdon.

Blacksburg took the top spot with 17 points, followed by Abingdon (69), Jefferson Forest (125), Cave Spring (143) and Christiansburg (152) to round out the Top 5 teams. Altavista was sixth with 154 points, followed by Radford (194), Patrick County (206), Hidden Valley (217), Galax (234), Lebanon (240), John Battle (241) and Salem (379).
