Shelor Motor Mile, National Bank and the BHS Booster Club are co-sponsoring 4^th annual Austin Cloyd Memorial Basketball Tournament at Blacksburg High School from December 27^th – 29^th. Other business partners for the event include Substation II, Brown Insurance Agency, The Frosty Parrott and Blacksburg Physical Therapy.

The tournament is in honor of Austin Cloyd, a former BHS girls basketball player whose life was lost in the Virginia Tech tragedy on April 16, 2007.  Tournament proceeds will be donated to a scholarship fund in honor of Austin.

This year, BHS Girls Head Basketball Coach Roger Henderson added a new element—a service project. “We thought that since service was such a big part of Austin’s life, we wanted to do something that would help the community as part of the tournament participation process,” Henderson explains. The BHS Girls Basketball team has already volunteered at the Blacksburg Food Pantry and plans a visit to a local nursing home during the holidays.

Several area junior varsity teams, along with the BHS JV squad, will also play a few games. The varsity tournament schedule is as follows:

7:15  South County vs. Blacksburg

Dec. 28
2:00  North Cross vs. Auburn

7:15  Radford vs. Blacksburg

Dec. 29
11:00 Christiansburg vs. South County
12:45 Radford vs. W.T. Woodson

4:15   North Cross vs. Blacksburg

Tournament Admission Pricing is as follows:
Daily Fee: $8 for adults, $6 for students
Tournament Pass: $18 for adults,  $15 for students (pass is good all three days)

BHS Sports Marketing students have been responsible for event and sponsorship management for the tournament.
