Blacksburg is still searching for its first win of the season, as South County claimed a 36-24 non-district girls' basketball win in the opening round of the Austin Cloyd Memorial Basketball Tournament Tuesday afternoon at Blacksburg High School.
South County takes on Pulaski County at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon, while Blacksburg meets Radford at 7:15 p.m. tonight.
South County (3-5) took a 13-7 lead after the first quarter and increased their advantage to 23-16 at the break. Things slowed down in the third quarter, as South County held the Bruins (0-8) to a single point in the third quarter, as they extended its lead to 29-17 heading into the fourth quarter. Both teams scored seven points each in the final quarter, as South County claimed the 12-point win.
Gillian Gerton led South County with a game-high11 points and April Henson scored 10 points.
Jordan Ballein led Blacksburg with six points.
