Cave Spring would use a strong second quarter, as they claimed its second-straight Region IV, Division 3 title with a 68-55 win over Martinsville Friday night at Carroll County High School in Hillsville.
Both the Knights (22-4) and the Bulldogs (18-5) will play in next week's Group AA state quarterfinals.
Cave Spring would take a slim 14-12 advantage after the opening eight minutes. The Knights would start to ride away with this one, as they outscored the Bulldogs, 14-5, to take a 28-17 advantage at the break. Cave Spring would continue to pull away in the third quarter, as they took a 44-35 lead into the crucial fourth quarter. The Knights would continue to control the tempo in the final eight minutes, as they claimed the 68-55 win.
Clay Lacy led Cave Spring with a game-high 28 points.Adam Hager and Josh Henderson tossed in 16 points each. Henderson also pulled down 16 boards.
