Cave Spring Nips Salem

Cave-Springs-LogoAfter a nearly three hour delay, Frazier Howes scored the winning goal in sudden-death overtime, to give Cave Spring a thrilling 2-1 victory over Salem in the third-place game of the River Ridge District boys soccer tournament Friday night at Bogle Stadium in Roanoke.

Cave Spring will play Bassett in the Region IV tournament on Tuesday.

Howes scored the winning goal for the Knights (11-5-2) off a corner kick from Tim Henderson in the fourth five-minute overtime period.

The Spartans (6-10-3) would strike first, as Johnny Hughes scored to make it 1-0.

Just before the half, David Kegley would score for Cave Spring to tie the match at 1-1.
