Cody Holder hammered an inside-the-park grand slam, as Tunstall pounded Cave Spring, 17-8, in the championship game of the Region IV baseball tournament on a blistering Saturday afternoon at Dan Daniel Park in Danville.
Tunstall (23-1), who has won six of the last eight Region IV championships, hosts a first-round Group AA state playoff game against Region III runner-up Jefferson Forest on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Cave Spring (15-10) visits Region III champion Fort Defiance on the same day.
The Knights jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, before the Tojans battled back and tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the third inning.
In the fourth inning, Tunstall increased its advantage to 8-5 and would tke complete control in the sixth, when they busted loose for nine runs to take a 17-6 lead.
Cave Spring would tack on a pair of runs in the seventh to make the final deficit, 17-8, Tunstall.
Cory Holder led Tunstall with 3-for-3 showing, including a double, a home run, five runs scored and five RBIs.
Steven Koll led Cave Spring with a 3-for-4 effort, including two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Brian Kluge and Luke Feldenzer went 2-for-4, while Jeremy Wimmer was 2-for-3 for the Knights. Kluge and Wimmer both had doubles in the game, while Feldenzer had a triple.
