Brookville Ends Cave Spring's Season

Cave-Springs-LogoIn a see-saw battle to the end, Brookville outlasted Cave Spring, 38-27, in the semifinals of the Group AA, Division 3 football playoffs Saturday afternoon at Bogle Field in Roanoke.

Brookville advances to next Saturday's state championship against unbeaten James Monroe at Liberty University.

The Knights (9-4) took a 7-0 early in the first quarter on a 4-yard run by Sam Wright. The Bees (13-0) would tie the game on a 3-yard run by Korren Kirven to make it 7-7.

In the second quarter, a 17-yard pass from Kendall BeCraft to Mark Boyd gave Brookville a 14-7 halftime advantage.

The Bees used an 8-yard pass from BeCraft to Guy Morris and a 40-yard scoring strike from BeCraft to Tyler Pitts to make it 28-7 midway through the quarter. However, Cave Spring wasn't ready to throw in the towel. A 4-yard pass from Reece Kingery to Matt Reiter and a 7-yard scamper by Tony Simmons pulled the Knights to within seven, 28-21, after three quarters of action.

A 29-yard pass from BeCraft to Boyd extended the Bees' lead to 35-21 early in the fourth quarter. The Knights answered with a 10-yard run by Wright to make 35-27. A 23-yard field goal by Gutierrez would make the final 38-27, Brookville.

Brookville recorded 325 yards of offense. Kendall BeCraft led the way with 205 yards on a 13-for-17 afternoon and four TDs.

Cave Spring posted 311 yards of offense. Sam Wright paced the attack with 132 yards on 35 carries, while Tony Simmons added 106 yards on 15 carries.
