Cave Spring jumped out to an early lead and then held off a late Blacksburg rally to claim a 59-53 River Ridge District boys' basketball win Friday night in Roanoke.
The Knights (9-6, 2-2 RRD) rode out to a 14-10 first quarter lead and increased their advantage to 31-24 at the break. After a low scoring third quarter that saw Cave Spring extend its lead to 39-27 after three quarters. The Bruins fought their way back in the fourth quarter to pull to within one, but clutch free throw shooting down the stretch, allowed the Knights to hold on for the six-point road win.
Eric James and Kaleb Bohrnstedt led Blacksburg with nine points each.
Amin Abuhawwas paced Cave Spring with a game-high 25 points.
