Christiansburg Runs Over Giles

Christiansburg-Blue-DemonsDe’Quan Green Gause and Joey Augustin combined for 297 yards and five touchdowns, as Christiansburg ran away with a 35-14 non-district football win over Giles Friday night in Pearisburg.

The Blue Demons (2-0) wasted no time in getting things rolling their way. Christiansburg took the opening kickoff and immediately started the march downfield. Behind the running of Joey Augustin and De'Quan Green-Gause, the Blue Demons capped off an eight play, 56-yard drive with a 2-yard run by Augustin and Jake Hamley's PAT to take a 7-0 lead 8:57 showing in the first quarter.

The Spartans (1-1) on their first possession methodically moved the ball downfield. However the drive ended when Christiansburg's Kory Hendricks recovered a Giles fumble on the Blue Demon 35-yard line to stop the threat. After a series of three-and-out by both teams, Christiansburg would get the ball back. Eleven plays later, Green-Gause busted in from a yard-out and Hamley's PAT extended the Blue Demons lead to 14-0 with 6:32 left in the second quarter.

Giles finally got on the scoreboard at the 1:37 mark of the second quarter on a 32-yard run by Ian Mann and Tyler Perdue's PAT to make it 14-7. Just 22 seconds later, Green-Gause busted loose for a 63-yard gallop into the zone and Hamley's PAT allowed Christiansburg to pull back out to a 21-7 lead with 1:15 remaining in the second quarter.

After holding the Spartans to a three-and-out to start the third quarter, the Blue Demons, on their second play from scrimmage, would see Augustin ramble 58-yards for the touchdown and Hamley's PAT make it 28-7 with 10:08 on the clock. Christiansburg once again held Giles to another three-and-out. The Demons then needed just eight plays to light up the scoreboard again, this time Green-Gause scored from 16-yards out, his third touchdown of the night, and Hamley's PAT gave Christiansburg a comfortable 35-7 lead with 3:18 left in the third quarter.

Giles added a touchdown at the 3:22 mark of the fourth quarter on a 16-yard run by Mann to make the final 35-14.

Christiansburg, who compiled 385 yards of total offense, was led by Green-Gause with 164 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns, while Augustin added 133 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns.

Giles, who tallied 250 yards, all rushing, was led by Ian Mann with 130 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns.
