Led by the first place finish of Zach Chase, the Christiansburg boys team finished first, while the girls squad took second in the 2A Division of the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic held Friday and Saturday in Orlando, Florida.
Chase led Christiansburg with a time of 16:47.37. He was followed by Matt Spurlock (fifth, 17:33.61), Neal Eaton (ninth, 17:52.09), Alex Cooper (13th, 18:21.83), Aaron Lowe (15th, 18:27.97), Matt Fonseca (16th, 18:28.88) and Zach Lovelace (30th, 19:25.95).
Christiansburg finished first with 33 points, followed by Sweet Home 50, Hanover 81, Twin Lakes 99 and Carrollton to round out the top five teams. A total of eight teams and 75 runners competed.
Allison Sherman led the Lady Blue Demons with a fifth place showing in a time of 20:46.59. She was followed by Kayla Richardson (sixth, 20:51.98), Megan Burns (11th, 21:53.10), Cassie Linkous (15th, 22:23.96), Kelsie Wade (26th, 23:14.39), Bailey Knowles (27th, 23:15.02) and Briana Graham (23:17.27).
Sweet Home finished first with 33 points, followed by Christiansburg 63, Lemon Bay 72, Immaculate Heart 84 and Hanover 107 to round out the top five teams. A total of 10 teams and 90 runners competed.
