After verbally committing to Virginia Tech last June, Christiansburg's Brenden Motley made it official Wednesday morning, as he signed his Letter of Intent to join the Hokie football program.

Motley, who was the only quarterback to join the 2012 recruiting class, helped lead Christiansburg to its first-ever appearance in the Group AA, Division 4 state championship game this past season.

In 2011, Motley passed for 951 yards and 12 touchdowns on a 53-113-3 season. He also ran for 646 yards on 106 rushes for an addition 13 TDs.

Defensively, the new Hokie tallied 74 tackles, in which 52 of them were solo. He had five passes defensed, three interceptions two blocked kicks, one tackle for a loss, one caused fumble and one blocked punt.

The senior's 2011 honors included First Team All-River Ridge District quarterback, First Team All-RRD utility player, First Team All-Region IV utility player and First Team All-Region IV quarterback.

"We are very excited to have him. He is very athletic and can do a lot things," said Jim Cavanaugh, Virginia Tech's Director of Recruiting. "He is also a kid that can work out in a lot of different positions for a lot of different reasons. I'll tell you this, he has a chance to be a heck of a quarterback."
