Christiansburg Knocks Off Magna Vista

Christiansburg-Blue-Demons Christiansburg placed a pair of players in double-figures, as the Blue Demons claimed a 56-44 win over Magna Vista in the semifinals of the River Ridge District boys' basketball tournament Wednesday night at Hidden Valley High School.

Christiansburg (24-2) now tangles with Hidden Valley (14-12) at 7 p.m. Friday night in the championship game at Hidden Valley.

The Blue Demons staked out to a 15-8 lead after the opening quarter and increased their advantage to 26-20 at the half. It was back and forth in the third quarter, as Christiansburg's Brenden Motley made two big defensive plays, to allow the Blue Demons to take a 41-34 lead into the final quarter. Christiansburg outscored the Warriors (17-5) in the fourth quarter to earn the win, plus a spot in next week's Group AA state semifinal quarterfinals.

Brenden Motley led Christiansburg with 14 points and Kam Johnson scored 13 points.

I agree, Willie, that the Blue Demons with their " A game " that was shown last night is extremely potent. But as to the sites being predetermined,, , Its my understanding ( including talk w/ coaches and AD's ) that some of the sites are determined just days prior. Thus the TBD 's on many of the tournament sites schedules we see in advance. Would like to hear other takes on this issue.

I agree with you DC. It's to my understanding that the regional sites are determined 1 to 2 years in advance, not knowing who will be play each other come tournament time. This year, it just happens to be at Hidden Valley. But, if the Blue Demons bring their "A" game, they can beat anybody, anywhere, anytime. I also agree that VHSL is all about putting money in their pockets.

Great win by the Blue Demons, but another case in point of the blatant stupidity and bias of the VHSL. HOW DOES A TEAM WITH A 24 WIN 2 LOSS SEASON, DISTRICT TITLE END UP PLAYING A MID PACK TEAM FOR THE REGIONAL TITLE ,,,,,ON THEIR HOME FLOOR ?????? There is NO reasonable explanation. It's about who can line the pockets of the VHSL who get ALL revenues once ALL playoffs start.
