The Titans would pull away in the final minute, as they claimed a hard-fought 41-36 victory over the Bruins in the opening round of the Region IV, Division 4 girls basketball tournament Tuesday night in Roanoke.
Hidden Valley (18-7) will face Carroll County in the semifinals tonight at Magna Vista. Game time is 6 p.m.
The Titans would take a 12-2 lead after the first quarter and increased their advantage to 21-10 at the half. The Bruins (12-12) would start to work their way back into this one, as they cut their deficit to 29-23, going into the pivotal fourth quarter. Blacksburg would continue to battle in the fourth quarter, as they managed to pull to within one with just 1:20 left in the game. However, Hidden Valley would connect on their foul shots in the final minute to hold on to the 41-36 victory.
Lacey McMahon led Blacksburg with 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and Katy Kipps tossed in 12 points.
Tyler Evans paced Hidden Valley with a game-high 18 points.
