In the Consolation Championships of the Northside Invitational Tournament Friday afternoon, Pulaski County found its shooting touch in the second half, as the Cougars slipped past Blacksburg 62-61 in non-district boys' basketball action.
The Bruins (5-5) raced out to 21-10 first quarter lead and extended their advantage to 36-19 at the half. The second half was a complete turnaround, as the Cougars (4-5) outscored Blacksburg 24-13 to cut their deficit to six, 49-43, heading into the pivotal fourth quarter. The Bruins continued to have shooting woes in the final quarter, as Pulaski County outscored Blacksburg 19-12, including a pair of free throws by Pulaski's Andrew Samuelson with 2.6 seconds left in the game that decided the final margin.
Andrew Samuelsson paced Pulaski County with 15 points and Matt Greene added 11 points.
Kaleb Bohrnstedt and Michael Ayeres led Blacksburg with 15 points apiece. Destiny Etuck scored 13 points.
