Cave Spring's Lauren Sledd and David Dotson claimed the singles' crown, while Blacksburg's Will Coffey and David Rounoniemi earned the boys doubles title and the Knights' Sledd-Myers claimed the girls' doubles title in the River Ridge Disrict tennis tournament Wednesday afternoon at Virginia Tech.
GIRLS
Top-seeded Lauren Sledd of Cave Spring claimed the singles title with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over No. 2 seed Kristy Choi of Blacksburg.
In the doubles championship, Cave Spring's Emily Myers and Sledd, the No. 1 seed, defeated Hidden Valley's Emma Barker and Abby Dixon 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Both No. 1 Cave Spring and No. 2 Blacksburg girls' teams will advance to next week's Region IV boys' tournament. In addition to the the didtrict singles/doubles champion and runner-ups.
BOYS
In the singles finals, No. 3 seed David Dodson of Cave Spring defeated top-seeded Will Coffey of Blacksburg 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
No. 1 Coffey and David Rounoniemi claimed the doubles crown over Eric Culbertson and Dodson of Cave Spring 7-6 (9), 7-6 (7).
Both No. 1 Blacksburg and No. 2 Hidden Valley boys' teams will advance to next week's Region IV boys' tournament. In addition to the the didtrict singles/doubles champion and runner-ups.
