Blue Demons, Titans, Knights Compete At Great American

The Christiansburg boys finished third and the Hidden Valley boys came home in sixth place in the Great American Cross Country Festival held Saturday in Cary, NC. In addition, Cave Spring's Katy Fortner and Cody Seymour finished second and eleventh, respectively, in the Race of Champions.

Led by the seventh-place finish of Zach Chase, the Blue Demons finished third in the team race. Meanwhile, Hidden Valley came home in sixth place.

Sarasota Springs, NY was first with 48 points, followed by Amherst Regional (MA) 86, Christiansburg 176, Ludlow (MA) 178 and Sherwood (MD) 184 to round out the top five. Hidden Valley finished sixth with 201 points. A total of 18 teams competed.

Leading Christiansburg was Chase (7th, 16:18.27), followed by Matt Spurlock (27th, 16:51.826), Alex Cooper (34th, 16:57.533), Neal Eaton (60th, 17:28.754), Nicholas Restrepo (62nd, 17:30.356). BK Evans (94th, 17:56.786) and Andrew Bradshaw (109th, 18:21.41).

Noah Long led Hidden Valley with a 29th place finish in the time of 16:53.928. followed by Will Hodges (37th, 17:00:36), Cameron Vaughn (43rd, 17:08.440), Doug Hartley (45th, 17:10.642) and Eli Harding (61st, 17:29.855).

Neither school’s girls’ team competed.

Race Of Champions

On the girls’ side, Cave Spring’s Katie Fortner finished second with a time of 17:35.4. Haley Pierce of Tatnall School (DE) was first with a time of 17:32.11.

On the boys’ side, Cody Seymour of Cave Spring was 11th with a time of 15:34.5. Daniel Moore of Holy Trinity Academy (FL) finished first with a time of 14:57.61.
