Bruins Sweep RRD Cross Country Title, Blue Demons Finish Second

Blacksburg made it a clean sweep Saturday, as the Bruins won the River Ridge District cross country championships at Hidden Valley High School in Roanoke. Meanwhile, Christiansburg swept second place honors.

It was the Bruins' sixth –straight district championship on the boys’ side.

Cave Spring’s Katie Fortner and Cody Seymour won the district girls and boys individual titles, respectively. Fortner finished with a time of 18:37, while Seymour clocked in at 16:03.

Girls

Blacksburg placed six runners in the Top 15, as the Bruins edged second place finisher Christiansburg, 35-61, to win the team title.

Hidden Valley finished third with 80 points, followed by Cave Spring 90, Salem 107 and Pulaski County 141.

Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Hidden Valley and Cave Spring, along with the top 15 individual runners will advance to the Region IV championships, which will be held at Hidden Valley High School on Saturday, Nov. 5.

The Top 15 girls included Katie Fortner (Cave Spring, 18:37), Carolyn Bethel (Hidden Valley, 18:55), Lindsey Siska (Salem, 19:11), Hannah Brown (Blacksburg, 19:23), Claire Ewing-Nelson (Blacksburg, 19:28), Eliza Eaton (Christiansburg, 19:30), Kate Buss (Blacksburg, 19:34), Bonnie Angermeier (Blacksburg, 20:08), Megan Burns (Christiansburg, 20:10), Ella Reeves (Pulaski County, 20:14), Jennifer Fleming (Blacksburg, 20:17), Allison Sherman (Christiansburg, 20:19), Greta Weidner (Hidden Valley, 20:20), Kerrie Dalton (Cave Spring, 20:28) and Lauren Jaeger (Blacksburg, 20:33).

Boys

Led by a second place finish from Nick Link, the Bruins topped second place finisher Christiansburg, 26-51, to claim the boys’ title.

Cave Spring was third with 85 points, followed by Hidden Valley 88, Salem 123 and Pulaski County (180).
