Blacksburg Girls, Christiansburg Boys Win RRD Track Titles

The Blacksburg girls and Christiansburg boys ran away with the River Ridge District indoor track and field titles Monday night at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House.

On the girls' side, Blacksburg was first with 153 points, followed by Pulaski County (95), Christiansburg (81), Cave Spring (44), Hidden Valley (43) and Salem (15).

In the boys' events, Christiansburg took first with 172 points, followed by Blacksburg (162),Cave Spring (27), Salem (27), Pulaski County (24) and Hidden Valley (12).

 

GIRLS

 

Winners included Blacksburg's Alyn Carr, who set a new record in the 300 meter run with a time of 41:97 seconds, breaking the old time of 42.44. She also set a new record in the long jump with a mark of 18-02.50, breaking the old record of 17-10 set in 2009 and she also took the top spot in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7:20 seconds; Hannah Brown (1000 meter run, 3:03.17 and Adrian Newcomb (55 meter hurdles, 9:42).

 

The Bruins 4x200 meter relay team (Katie Olszewski, Hannah Rader, Kim Shaver, Alyn Carr) was first with a time of 1:48.64.

 

Hidden Valley was paced by Carolyn Bethel, who broke the old record of 1:18.07 set last year in the 500 meter run with a new time of 1:16.24.

 

The Titans 4x400 meter relay team (Audra Turner, Carolyn Bethel, Ashleigh Torres, Lauren Puckett) claimed the top spot with a time of 4:17.78.

 

Katie Fortner led Cave Spring with a first place showing in the 1600 meter run (5:07.74) and the 3200 meter run (11:05.07).

 

Christiansburg's Rachel Rahmes was first in the triple jump with a mark of 34-04.75 and Rochelle Evans broke her own record in the shot put with a heave of 44-04.00, breaking the record of 42-11.50 that she set last year.

 

The Blue Demons 4x800 meter relay team crossed the line first to set a new record with a time of 10:14.05, breaking the old mark of 10:14.88 set in 2007.

 

Pulaski County's Sydney Anderson set a new record in the high jump with a mark of 5-03.00, breaking the old mark of 5-02.

 

BOYS

 

Christiansburg was led by B.K. Evans (500 meter run, 1:07.69), De'Quan Green-Gause (high jump, 5-10.00), Tre Bacon (triple jump, 42-02.75) and Caleb Caldwell (shot put, 43-10.50.

 

The Blue Demons 4x200 meter relay team finished first with a time of 1:34.79, the 4x400 meter relay team crossed the line first in a time of 3.34.52. 

 

Blacksburg's Nick Link finished first in the 3200 meter run with a record time of 9:35.09 to break the old time of 9:46.30 set in 2008. Garland Smith (55-meter dash, 6:82 and the long jump, 21-01.25), Michael Carter (1000 meter run, 2:38.16) and Ross Dove (55 meter hurdles, 7.99). 

 

The Bruins 4x800 meter relay team (Cody Earles, John Mattingly, Kenny Poole, Nick Wilson) was first with a time of 9:02.74.

 

Salem's Matt West set a new record in the 300 meter run with a time of 35.93 seconds, breaking the old time of 36.47 set in 2010.

 

Cody Seymour of Cave Spring set a new record in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:22.15 to break the mark of 4:22.31 set in 2008.
