Salem scored 14 unanswerd third quarter points, as they pulled away from previously unbeaten Franklin County, 34-14, Friday night at Salem Memorial Stadium.
The Spartans (2-0) took a quick 7-0 lead in the opening quarter on a 2-yard run by Marty Bishop. The Eagles (1-1) answered right back with a 44-yard pass from T.J. Shaw to Shane Preston to knot the score at 7-7 heading into the second quarter.
A 17-yard pass from Adam McGarrell to Philip Hughes gave Salem a 14-7 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, a 1-yard and 4-yard run by Bishop upped the Spartans advantage to 28-7.
A 47-yard run by Clint Peregoy gave Salem a 34-7 lead. Franklin County would close out the fourth quarter with a 67-yard pass from Shaw to Preston to make the final 34-14.
Franklin County, who had 198 yards passing, saw T.J. Shaw complete 14-of-26 passes, including two touchdowns.
Salem, who had 181 yards on the ground, was led by Jordan Daniels' 76 yards on 16 carries. Adam McGarrell completed 7-of-15 passes for 127 yards.
