In a barn-burner to the end, Salem outlasted William Byrd, 71-68 in double-overtime, in non-district boy's basketball action Monday night in Vinton.
The Terriers (0-6), who held a slim 27-25 haLftime lead, saw the Spartans (4-0) use a stromg third to come back and time the game at 52-52 at the end of regulation. In the first overtime, both teams knocked down 10 points apiece to tie the game at 62-62 and send it into a second OT period. Salem outscored William Byrd 9-6 in the period to head home with the exciting 71-68 road win.
Tyler Treski led Salem with 20 points and Shawn McDaniel contributed 12 points.
Kody Collier led William Byrd with a game-high 23 points and Joe Barton tossed in 18 points.
