eastmont-mustangs-logoIn a pitching duel, Floyd County outlasted Eastern Montgomery 1-0 in a Three Rivers District JV softball game Tuesday in Elliston that was decided in the eighth inning.

The Buffaloes' Phillips tossed a complete game, giving up no runs on three hits, walking none and striking out eight. She also scored the winning run on Bunnette's triple in the top of the eighth.

Tayler Lewis was tagged with the heart-break loss for the Mustangs (7-5, 3-3). She gave up one run on four hits, walking two and striking out nine.

Alyssa Sampson led East Mont with a double, while Scarlett Sisson and Skylar Shaver added a hit each.

"This was an amazing game by both teams! Solid defense all around with spectacular pitching by both teams. As a coach, this was one of the best games I've seen played. It was a lot of fun and I'm proud of the girls for treating everyone in attendance to a tremendous game," said East Mont head JV coach Heather Wilson.
