Eastern Montgomery High School is hoping a coaching change will bring new life to a baseball program that has struggled in a very competitive Three Rivers District the past two seasons.
Paul Johnson, a senior at Roanoke College, has replaced Dave Sisson as the head varsity coach for the Mustangs.
Johnson, who started the season as the Mustangs assistant coach, played baseball for three years at Roanoke College and played his high school ball for Chantilly High School.
Sisson, who compiled a 2-14-1 record in the last two years as the Mustangs head skipper, stated that he was told that he was fired last week over disciplinary issues with the players and because the program was not going in the right direction. East Mont's Athletic Director, Tracy Poff, said that Sisson resigned.
Johnson's debut as the new coach was not a successful one, as Radford defeated East Mont 15-2 in Three Rivers District play Tuesday evening. The game was called after five innings due to the slaughter rule.
The Mustangs are currently 0-2 and 0-1 in the Three Rivers District.
