Eastern Montgomery ran out to an early lead and never looked back, as they defeated previously unbeaten Galax, 38-26, Friday night in Elliston.
The Mustangs (3-0) galloped out to a 19-0 lead on a 7-yard run by Shawn Christian, a 37-yard scamper by Mike Shelor and a 19-yard pass from Christian to Julian Stewart. The Maroon Tide (2-1) would final score late in the quarter on an 11-yard run by Terrance Mazon.
In the second quarter, a 5-yard run by Shelor and a 25-yard pass from Christian to Brad Wooten would up East Mont's advantage to 31-7. An 11-yard pass from Mazon to Jared Brown allowed Galax to get on the scoreboard before the half, as the score stood 31-13 at the half.
Galax would score again in the third quarter on a 5-yard run by Jordan Vaughan to make it 31-19 heading into the final quarter.
A 6-yard pass from Christian to Caleb East 38-19. Galax would close out the quarter with an 87-yard kickoff return by Brown to make the final 38-26, East Mont.
Jordan Vaughan led Galax with 98 yards rushing on 33 carries.
Shawn Christian led East Mont with 348 yards passing on a 25-for-39 night, including three passing touchdowns and running for another. Brad Wooten hauled in a 11 catches for 127 yards and Julian Stewart had 119 yards on nine receptions.
