Covington hit the winning basket in the final seconds, as the Cougars earned a hard-fought 44-42 non-district boy's basketball win over Eastern Montgomery Friday night in Elliston.
The Mustangs (2-2), who led 21-16 at the half, saw the Cougars (4-4) come back in the third quarter and take a slim 32-29 lead into the crucial fourth quarter. It was back-and-forth the entire quarter. With the game tied at 42-42 in the final seconds, Covington's Jordan Miller hit a putback to give the Cougars the exciting two-point road win.
Chad Lipes paced Covington with a game-high 20 points. Quinton Hunter tallied 14 points and Jordan Miller tossed in 10 points.
James Fields led East Mont with 16 points.
