Having enough runners to fill a girls' team and defending its Three Rivers District boys title are the highlights of the Floyd County girls and boys' cross country team, as they prepare for the 2010 season.
Girls
After not having enough runners to field a girls' squad last year, head coach Dawn Weeks have finally rounded up enough girls for the upcoming campaign. Team members include freshman Makayla Beckner (second year), freshman Alice Cox (second year), senior Kayla Orr (second year), freshman Jordan Roscoe (second year), junior Emilie Schwartz (first year), junior Kendra Lester (second year), junior Morgan Lineberry (first year) and Brandy Brooks (first year).
"We finally have enough girls to get a team score," added Weeks.
Boys
With a veteran core of runners back, Floyd County is looking to defend its boys title in the district and Region C this fall.
Leading the pack is senior Russell Callahan (fifth year), senior Andrew Grubb (fourth year), junior Will Lane (third year), freshman Vincent Osborne (third year), junior Riley St. Pierre (fourth year), junior Gabriel Whitlock (fourth year), junior Matt Wurtzburger (second year), junior Justin Byrd (first year), sophomore Ryan Lewis (first year) and freshman Aaron Orr (second year).
"We have a core of experience and new runners," said Weeks.
