Giles used a strong second half to turn a one-point halftime deficit into a 31-16 win over host Blacksburg Friday night in non-district football action.
The Spartans(1-0) took a 6-0 lead on a 4-yard run by Ian Mann. The Bruins (0-1) came back to take a 7-6 lead on a 5-yard run by Korbin Hendricks and Carson Wise's PAT.
In the second quarter, a 19-yard field goal by Wise and a 32-yarder by Garrett Lee made it 10-9 at the half, Blacksburg.
A 14-yard run by Whitlow and the two-point conversion by Mann gave Giles a 17-10 lead after three quarters of action.
A 67-yard gallop by Mann and a 5-yard run by Perdue gave the Spartans a 31-10 lead midway through the fourth quarter. A 71-yard pass from Blacksburg’s Phoenix Cole to Aidan Ball made the final 31-16.
