Tyler Thorne set the tone for this one, as Giles cruised to a 12-2 win over Eastern Mongomery, in the opening round of the Three Rivers District baseball tournament Tuesday evening in Pearisburg.
Thorne slammed a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to give the Spartans (13-8) an early 5-0 lead.
Trevor Dudding would also add a home run to his stats, as he nailed a solo blast in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Julian Stewart led the Mustangs with two hits.
Giles now meets Radford at 7 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals at Salem's Kiwanis Field.
