In a furious battle of county rivals, Narrows held off a fourth quarter rally to slip by Giles, 56-55, in non-district girls basketball action Wednesday night in Pearisburg.
The Green Wave (3-1), who held a slim 26-24 halftime advantage, saw the Spartans (0-4) come back in the third quarter to take a 37-33 lead into the pivotal fourth quarter. Narrows continued to keep it close throughout the fourth quarter, fending off two attempts late in the game by Giles from within short range, to escape with the one-point win.
Tiffany Perdue led Narrows with a game-high 27 points and Savanna Burton tossed in 13 points.
Lyndsey Jackson led Giles with 22 points, including five 3-pointers, and seven rebounds. Tiffany Cook had 16 points, and Michalam Ratcliffe finished with 10 points.
