In a battle, George Wythe eventually pulled away for a 56-42 non-district boys' basketball win over Giles Monday night in Pearisburg.
The Spartans (4-9) raced out to a 16-9 lead after the initial quarter. The Maroons (10-3) went on a 14-7 run in the second quarter to tie the game at 23-23 at the break. George Wythe would take a slim 38-36 lead at the end of three quarters of play. The Maroons burned the nets for 18 points in the final quarter, while holding Giles to just six points, in pulling away for the 14-point road victory.
Marcus Hash led George Wythe with 11 points and Shaquille Calfee chipped in with 10 points.
Dylan Raymond led Giles with a game high 19 points, whike John Shelor finished with 12 points.
