Giles picked up its first Three Rivers District boys' basketball win of the season, as the Spartans claimed a hard-fought 56-53 win over Eastern Montgomery Wednesday night in Elliston.
The Mustangs (5-16, 1-7 TRD) trotted out to a 14-8 lead after the opening quarter. The Spartans (4-14, 1-7 TRD) battled back in the second quarter to cut their deficit to one, 25-24, at the half. Both teams would knock down 18 points apiece in the third quarter, as East Mont headed into the final quarter clinging to a 43-42 advantage. It was nip-and-tuck in the fourth quarter, before the Spartans pulled away for the exciting three-point road win.
Kyle Chafin led Giles with 12 points and Tyler Collins scored 10 points.
Daniel Akers led East Mont with a game-high 13 points. James Fields tossed in 12 points, J. T. Shrader added 11 points, while Shane DeWeese finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
