Radford made it a clean sweep, as both the girls and boys team claimed the Three Rivers District cross country titles on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon in Pearisburg. The Bobcats' Walker Mogen also repeated as the individual champion in the boys race, while Floyd County's Sarah Phillips won the girls' title.
The Lady Bobcats, who placed five runners on the all-district team, was led by district honorees Kayla Crocker (third, 21:25), Cameron Schafer (fourth, 21:37), Emma Duncan (sixth, 21:57), Morgan Bishop (ninth, 22:26) and Laura Puckett (tenth, 22:27). Also competing were Amelia Shaffer (15th, 23:06) and Sarah Showalter (18th, 23:35).
Floyd County’s Sarah Phillips won the girls individual crown with a time of 20:42.
The girls’ squad finished with 29 points, followed by Floyd County (32), Glenvar (80), East Mont (119), Giles (120). Auburn did not field a field complete team.
There was no doubt as to was going to win the boys’ team title and individual title, as defending champion Walker Mogen scorched the course in a time of 15:57. His closest competitor was teammate Matt Turk, who finished second with a time of 17:05. He was followed by Adam Johnston (sixth, 17:34), Ryan Johnson (eighth, 17:39), Cole Schafer (12th, 17:51), Sam Van Noy (13th, 18:00) and Tyler Agnes (16th, 18:24). Mogen, Turk, Johnston and Johnson were named to the all-district team.
Radford took the boys’ crown with 29 points, followed by Floyd County (59), Giles (77), Auburn (90) and Glenvar (126). East Mont did not field a complete team.
Radford, Floyd County and Giles all advance to the Region C Tournament next Wednesday, Oct. 31 at Sugar Hollow on the boys’ side, while Radford, Floyd and Glenvar advance for the girls.
