Sean Donnelly saw his perfect season fall by the wayside, as he finished seventh in the prestigious Big Blue Wrestling Tournament held this past Friday and Saturday (Jan. 20-21) at Christiansburg High School. As a team, Radford finished 24^th with 46.5 points.

A total of 35 teams competed in the tournament, which was won by host Chirstiansburg.

Donnelly, who was sporting a 23-0 mark going into the Big Blue, went 4-2 to drop his record to 27-2. The senior finished seventh after winning a 12-0 major decision over Sawyer Barksdale of Lee Davis in the consolations. He  also earned wins over Richard Gallegos of Louisa (pin, 37 seconds), Jacob Bonds of Christiansburg (technical fall) and Josh Wilkins of Battlefield (technical fall). He lost to Andrew Atkinson of Liberty Christian by a pin in 1:09 and to Cam Timok of Hermitage by an 8-5 decision.

Adam Whitlock (195 pounds) went 3-3, while Cody Morgan (285 pounds) compiled a 2-3 record. Both finished in eighth place.

Whitlock picked up wins over Josh Lundy of Chilhowie, Kyle Haley of Lord Botetourt and Alveno Mathews of Franklin County, all pins. He fell to Doug Sizemore of William Monroe, Daniel Raquel of Amherst and by a pin to Allen Roots of Matoaca in the consolations in a time of 4:05.

Morgan earned wins over Peter Martin of Floyd County and Tyler Anthony of St. Christopher, both pins. He lost to Allen Chappell of Rockbridge by a pin and to David Evans of Matoaca in a pin that took 4:35.

Adam Turk (143 pounds) finished the weekend with a 2-2 mark.

Holt Turk (106 pounds), Taylor Ayers (113 pounds) and Conner Williams (132 pounds) went 1-2 in the two-day event.

David DeVilbiss (126 pounds), Will Alderman (130 pounds), William Stone (160 pounds) and Nick Goodson (170 pounds), all went 0-2.

Radford returns to the mats this weekend (Jan. 27-28), as they compete in the annual Big Orange tournament at William Byrd High School in Vinton.
