Already sporting a 3-1 record on the season, the Dayspring Christian Academy boys basketball team will be looking to rebuild a championship caliber team with one returning starter.
Wearing the uniform for the Lions this season are Michael Pfohl (Sr), Drew Smith (Sr), Chris Shelor (Sr), Warren Kirk (Sr), Andrew Lucas (Jr), Sam Copeland (Jr), Spencer Miller (Jr), Michael Ribbens (Jr), Thomas Weaver (Jr), David Henderson (Jr), Jack McDonald (Jr), Zach Morrill (Jr), Nathan Akers (Jr), TJ Wagnon (So) and Brandon Tucker (So).
Coach Dug Hampton sees his probable starters as being Lucas, Wagnon, Morrill, Smith and Kark.
The coach also expects Smith, Lucas and Wagnon to be his impact players this season.
"Our goals for this year's team are high," said Hampton. "Expecting a return to district and regional titles, which were won 2001-2009, as well as a pursuit of a 7th overall VACA State title."
As for the team's strengths, the coach sees the overall team depth as being a positive, while inexperience, basically a young team with primary juniors, being a weakness.
The Lions top game this season will be on Feb. 5 when they play Hidden Valley at the Salem Civic Center.
"I'm really excited about the opportunity to teach and build this team into a championship caliber unit," stated Hampton.
The Lions return to the hardwood tonight (Tuesday), as they travel to New Covenant.
