With 20 returning swimmers, the Patrick Henry boys/girls swim team is poised to repeat as Western Valley District champions again this season.
Taking over the swim program this year is Erick Largen, who will have 17 returning girls and three boys back from last seson's first place team.
The top swimmers for the Patriots this season are Jordyn Jones (Jr, Breaststroke), Anne Burke Baldridge (Jrm Fly/IM), Grace Casola (Soph, Free), Caitlin Privott (Fr, Back/Free/Fly), Madeline Winn (Fr, Fly), Liam Mulcahy (Sr, Fly), Locher Grove (Sr, Breaststroke), Daniel Morrill (Fr, Free/Back) and Bo Poole (Fr, Free/Back).
Newcomers to the team include Privott and Winn on the girl's side and Grove, Morrill, Noah Ammen and Niemann Pest on the boy's side.
As for the top swimmers who will make an impact this season, Larkin said, "A strong group of freshman will bring depth to our roster. Caitlin Privott has shown potiental to win districts in a number of events. Madeline Winn brings a strong Butterfly to the team. Both Daniel Morrill and Bo Poole are outstanding young swimmers and will challenge for district titles. Seniors Locher Grove and Liam Mulcahy continue to improve and will provide the foundation for our team."
The team's strenghts and weaknesses include, Girls – Strengths – Many versatile swimmers who can swim many different events/ Weaknesses – Young team. Boys- Strengths – Strong Leadership and versatility/ Weaknesses – Lack of depth in many events.
As for what the fans can see from this year's team, Larkin said, "The team as a whole has a strong work ethic and versatility to swim many different events. The boys' team is made up of athletes new to Patrick Henry Swimming but have exhibited drive and a great will to win. The girls team is large and will have great depth."
The top meet of the season will be a Jan. 11, 2012 date with WVD rival Franklin County.
"Being this is my first year with Patrick Henry swimming, I have been very impressed with the drive and work ethic of my swimmers. I see potential for lots of improvement and a strong season," Larkin added.
The Patriots open their 2011-12 campaign on Friday, Dec. 2 against Cave Spring at the Gator Aquatic Center.
