After a sluggish start, William Fleming would burn the nets in the final three quarters for 74 points, as the Colonels earned a hard-fought 80-68 Western Valley District girls' basketball win over visiting Franklin County Tuesday night.
The Eagles (12-9, 5-2 WVD) jumped out to a 13-6 lead after the opening quarter. The Colonels (11-7, 5-2 WVD) would methodically pull away over the next three quarters to claim the 12-point win and force a tie for the top spot in the district.
Charmaine Hairston led Franklin County with a game high 39 points and Zarkia Mattox added 11 points.
Ryjae Anderson and Erika Coleman led William Fleming with 14 points apiece. Tae Stevens scored 12 points and KeKe Haynes chipped in with 11 points.
